This morning

Oh man, I've been floating on cloud 9 since around 8:30 this morning.  From the bedroom, I could hear Jared talking on the phone.  This has pretty much become a morning routine.  Jared wakes up early (probably earlier than I even know) and calls the Embassy until he gets an answer or can't call any longer.  I'd say for about every 20-30 times he calls someone actually picks up.  Insert side note- it is very expensive to call the Congo.  Our phone bill was close to $400 last month.  So, these calls come at a very hefty price!

Well, the voice I heard from the bedroom was a little shaky and very different from the normal Jared voice, so of course I dash into the kitchen.  I hear, "It's ready" "Thank you so much" "So we can travel?" etc.  My eyes become HUGE, heart starts pounding, and my mind is racing.  As soon as he hangs up he says, "We're finished,  we have her visa!"  I immediately start crying and run over to him for a big hug {kinda like in the movies ;)} and ask him to reaffirm what I just heard happen.

We started this journey last February, almost exactly 1 year ago.  A journey that I thought would take 7-9 months.  In my perfect journey, I would have had my daughter by September, not had brain surgery, and we would be a happy family that had already spent Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas together.  Never in my wildest of dreams could I have imagined that we would be where we are today having gone through what we've gone through.  And, I can honestly say that I wouldn't trade our journey for one second.  I've learned to rely on God heavily through this time because relying on myself literally got me nowhere.  Trust me when I say this because it probably took the first 9 months of relying on myself to get to the point where I am now.  This did not happen overnight.  I've struggled with not having answers to questions, feeling like my prayers were not being heard, and everything under the sun.  It has taken thousands of people saying that they were praying for my little family, encouragement from my church, the love of our family, and a Godly husband to get me through this rough time.  And, for that I am thankful.

Okay, now back to the point.  As soon as we heard that J's visa was ready we went into crazytown mode.  Our bags have been packed for almost a month now, and that's no lie.  Now I just hope that when we packed last month we knew what we needed because I cannot remember what's in all of those suitcases.  Jared has been working on plane tickets all day, I'm finishing up some laundry and things around the house, etc.

And, we are doing all that because in less than 24 hours we will be boarding our plane to meet our little one.  That's right, folks.  At 12:30 on Tuesday, February 5th we will start our NEW journey.  The journey to meet our daughter.  If flights stay on schedule, we make it there safely, and there are no bumps in the road we will be meeting our daughter on Thursday morning.  At this point I can't even fathom what it is like to travel for 24 hours, but after all that we've been through I *think* we can handle it.  If not, that's where Ambien and Dramamine will come in handy, ha!

So, from the bottom of my heart I truly thank you and give every single one of you a HUGE virtual hug for sticking with us and being such faithful prayer warriors.  Since you are so used to saying a prayer for us, we would ask that you continue to do so :)  Our journey is definitely not over, and I would even go so far to say that it is really just getting started!

  46. Hallelujah - let the angel rejoice as we all do for you and your family. Lord be with Amy and Jared as they travel and prepare J and her parents for the days ahead when they will unite in your love and spirit. Knit them together as one in the flesh as you have connected them in the Spirit. God bless you all.

  47. Congratulations, you two! This has been one crazy journey, but I have loved following it and praying for you along the way.
Take it from someone who has made a 24 + flight everytime we go home and back (10 times and counting) it is LONG. But you get through it. Watch as many movies as your eyes can handle and sleep as much as you can. When you get to your destination, you will be too excited to sleep anyway, so get sleep on the plane. :)
    God bless!

  56. Jared and Amy,

Hello, I'm a teacher from Wisconsin who has followed you on your teaching blog and TpT store. I was so amazed when I began searching for Congo blogs and found you here too. I am also going through adoption from DRC.

I just want to wish you safe travels and the best of luck on your journey. All the heartache of the wait is over. Now the fun times begin. I have been praying for your family and will continue to do so. Looking forward to updates of your sweet family.

  58. Amy,

All I can think of is Laura Story's song "Blessings"....that even through the times we think God is not hearing our prayers He IS answering them and continuing to bless us. Thank you for blessing us by sharing your faith, heart, and struggles. Through y'alls story of bringing J into your family and heart I just see all of the ways God is being glorified. And as the Ray Boltz song says" Thank you for giving to the Lord. I am a life that was changed." You, Jared, J, your followers, others waiting to adopt, myself, and countless are being blessed and changed. THANK YOU! Sending prayers, smiles, and hugs your way. =)

  60. So happy for you! I have been following your blog, your teaching blog, and your tpt store. My husband and I adopted our son at birth and there is nothing like it! Our stories are very different, but in the end we both will have children by the grace of God and from the hearts of strangers. Good luck to you and I can't wait to read more about your new family!

  62. Congratulations Amy! I started following you this year, as I home school my 2nd Grader!! Your TPT stuff has been very beneficial for us! I had no idea you were adopting! From one grafted family to another...We have 2 boys through adoption {Abe 7-1/2 from Ukraine and Eli 16 months from USA}, and soon to have our first girl {Chloe to be born in a month!!}. We are knit perfectly together by the grace of God, and in our hearts we are the same. I would like to send you a book, that I think you will love! It's called "I-Don't-Have-Your-Eyes" http://www.amazon.com/I-Dont-Have-Your-Eyes/dp/0972624422. Please let me know if you have this book already. It's one of our family favorites. We would love to bless you with it. We are continuing to lift your family up in prayer as you find your new normal. :)
