Packing.... Part 1!

Today while Jared was putting up the Christmas lights, I decided that it was time to start packing for Africa.  We still are unsure of when Jared will travel, but one can never be too prepared!!!

Since *our* plans have changed and I cannot travel at this point because of my health, I am doing everything needed to make sure Jared puts together a matching outfit WITH a matching bow {that's VERY important to this girl!}!!

I started by laying out outfits, trying to include a good mix of dresses, skirts, shorts, and leggings.  It's warm where she is, so I had to think in all things summer.  But, when they begin traveling back, it will probably be cold, so I had to include a few wintry outfits also.

Then, I put the coordinating outfits into ziploc baggies.  No worries, I will probably label them as well at some point :)
I did pack undies and sleepy clothes too, but she's a lady so I didn't want to violate her privacy, ha!

Next, it was time to pack the backpack that she will take onto the plane.  I packed some fun girly items...
I also packed some books, stuffed animals, and a baby doll.  That girl almost ALWAYS has a baby in her arms in the pictures we have seen, so that was a must!
We still have quite a few things that she needs like socks, shoes, and some more small toys for the airplane, but we have plenty of time to finish up!

And, because Jared is such the germ-freak, I ordered him these items so that he can shower without using water all of the time.  He won't even buy a bottled coke from a foreign country, so using their water to do anything might just freak him out a little!
As I pack some more, I will be sure to pop back in to share those pics!

Thanksgiving!!!

Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours!

We had a busy, but wonderful day today celebrating with both sides of our family!  My parents live out in the country where there are actual trees around their house... not like the puny ones we have hangin' out in our neighborhood!  So, after lunch I asked, or forced, my family to head on out to the woods to take some good ol' family pictures!

My sister and me
 Our Daddy
We really do have THE best parents!
Seriously, how beautiful is my family?!  My mom, her twin, and her parents!
 Meemaw and Grandpa!
 My hunky husband!

And, I'm a little in love with my parent's new puppy.  I love all things shih-tzu... I'm not going to lie!  Pretty sure we were meant to be brother and sister :)

 What a handsome little fellow!!

If they would only let me take him home more often!

All in all, it was a beautiful day filled with fun family time and lots of yummy food!  Pretty sure I've gained at least 10 pounds just from today!

Helping Hands

My heart is full to the brim!  My sweet friend Jennifer planned a day of service for our Sunday School class at one of the local women's shelters.  It was such a blessing to see our girls in action today, and I'm so thankful they gave a day from their break to do this with us!  I totally meant to bring my actual camera, but forgot.  So, iphone pictures will have to suffice!

After playing with the kiddos and making a craft we got busy making Christmas baskets for their volunteers!

We stuffed them with candy and Christmas goodies...

And tied them up with fun Christmas ribbon...

I think we ended up putting 32 of them together!  The workers were thrilled that we got so many done!
And, of course, we had a little fun along the way...

We will definitely be planning more trips to volunteer at that organization because it was such a blessing!  Hopefully next time we will have the rest of our girls with us!

Working out back...

When we moved into our house 3 years ago, we knew that something had to change in our backyard.  It had little to no patio, roof-wise, but WAY too much concrete.  With the Texas heat, the roofless patio and hot concrete made our backyard pretty much miserable.  So, we decided to start sprucin' this area up!

And, I now introduce you to our new favorite family member- the pergola!  Isn't she a beaut?!

We definitely still have some decorating to do out there as well as plants, BUT who does that stuff when it's cold outside?!  Not this girl!

I love even the simple things, like having a table with chairs to sit in and the extra lighting it provides.  I can actually see when my pups use the restroom at night now!

Our plan is to build a pool back in the corner of our yard.  Hoping to start on that this winter!

It really was a great investment, I think!  I can't wait until the spring/summer to finish it out and get all the cuteness going on out there!  But, until then we will just be in awe of that chunky, dark pergola!

Bedroom Makeover

While Jared and I are waiting for our little jewel to make her appearance, we have been doing some things around the house.  Knowing that our life/finances will completing be consumed with our child, we wanted to make sure we got some of our wish-list items taken care of before that happened!

I have redone our bedroom probably 6 times since we got married, and have never been fully satisfied.  It's kind of been the room that I've just put on the back-burner because nobody sees it but us.  But, then Pinterest happened in my life {dangit} and I couldn't ignore all of those lovely bedrooms out there anymore!

I found the perfect room on House of Rose and really just tried to copy it as best I could, ha!  You should check their room out because it's 100 times better than ours, but I'm no pro!  Jared and I went to Lowes and bought the exact paint without even looking at the colors beforehand :)  There are still some things I need to do here and there, but for the most part it is finished!

I want to do a little more to the side wall, but I like to have some projects left unfinished so that I have things to do when I'm off work!

We had the big silver vases, so we just needed the flowers for them!

Yes, that round thing is supposed to have votives in it, but I can't find them for the life of me {and, maybe I haven't really looked for them, ha!}

All things we had around the house.... just had to group them together!

I believe everything we bought came from Hobby Lobby... nothing like a one-stop shop!  And, the bedding came from Target!  LOVE!

Oh, and this has nothing to do with my bedroom, but I finally replaced my nonexistent earring storage.  I could paint it, and I may, but for now it is the perfect solution, AND it takes up hardly any space on the counter!

We've also been doing some fun things in the backyard that I'll blog about later this week!

Waiting...waiting....waiting on the Lord

Today is one of those 'big days,' or so we hope.  We've been waiting the past few weeks to get our finalized i-600 to bring our daughter home.  The i-600 is the 'last step' before the process to travel and bring her home can begin.  It's pretty much a certified document that says the United States is in agreement that she is truly an orphan, and the best possible option for her life is to be adopted to us.  We have stacks and stacks of papers!  We have signed, notarized, prayed, signed, notarized, and prayed to get everything turned in and ready for this moment.  And now….we wait.

We wait on the government.  We wait on the US Embassy to finish their procedures.  We wait on that phone call.  We wait on e-mails with pictures and videos of our beautiful little girl.  We look at pictures and long for God to unite us with a child He knew we'd have all the way back in Genesis.  And that's really where we are….we are waiting.  But yesterday, as I was finishing up a message for next March, I was reminded that we're not waiting on Immigration or people.  We are waiting on the Lord.  And maybe we're waiting on Him the wrong way.

As I was praying that God would let the phone ring so that our daughter could come home before Christmas, something just didn't feel right.  I've noticed that for quite some time we've been begging God to move on our behalf….and not often have we done it to grow closer to Him.  We want to raise our daughter in His goodness.  We pray that God would use her up for His glory.  We pray for all of the right things….but I was reminded yesterday of two things.  First of all, we're waiting on Him.  He's in control.  He's reminded us of that over and over again.  He's in control, and He is good.  We believe that with all of our hearts.

But what was more convicting was the fact that I was asking for time with my daughter more than I was begging for more of Him.  I was more interested in getting to know her than I was Him.  My prayer was to bring J home soon.  And conviction began.  What if God's purpose in this time of waiting was to grow us closer to Him.  What if, instead of seeking Him to move quickly, He wanted us to just seek more of Him?

And so that's where we're at today.  You can pray with us that we'll get a call from Immigration today with great news.  We hope you'll join us in praying for that.  But this morning, my heart desires a deeper focus on Him.  My prayer is that God will unite us with our amazingly beautiful daughter in these next few weeks….and until then, that we'd experience His goodness and search Him out.  Because after all, life isn't about being a parent….it's about being a child of God.  Let's walk in His goodness today.

Isaiah 40: 31 'Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength.  They'll mount up with wings like eagles.  They'll run and not be weary.  They'll walk and not faint.'

-Jared-
